This Week @ South Shore UMC

PRAYER FOR THE DAY OF PENTECOST

From The United Methodist Hymnal 542

God of grace, you sent the promised gift of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and the women, upon Mary the mother of Jesus and upon his brothers. Fill your church with power, kindle flaming hearts within us, and cause us to proclaim your mighty works in every tongue, that all may call on you and be saved; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

LITURGICAL COLOR: RED

The paraments – the cloths on the cross and pulpit – are now red signifying we are in the Season of Pentecost. On the day of Pentecost we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the church. The color red reminds us of the “flames” that appeared above the heads of the faithful gathered in worship as described in Acts 2.

SSYOUTH LEADING FIFTH SUNDAY 11am WORSHIP MUSIC SUNDAY, MAY 30

Please be in prayer for our SSYouth Worship Team as they prepare to lead worship during our 11am Contemporary Service on May 30. Students, we are so proud of you! We are grateful for your leadership and preparation!

Please join us safely in person or participate in our worship broadcast of this service to support our students!

SPECIAL REQUESTS FOR JUNE REPLENISH RESTORE

In honor of Father’s Day in June, our friends at Restore asked if we would include basic toiletry items in our monthly donations: men’s and women’s deodorant, body soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste. Restore Volunteers shared that these personal items often go unpurchased by persons that receive assistance from Restore because of their cost. It would be an incredible gift for SSUMC to stock Restore’s shelves with these items during the early Summer months. Please consider adding these items to your June donations.

HYMNS AND WORSHIP SONGS ARE TOTAL REQUEST LIVE AT SSUMC THIS SUMMER

Do you have a particular hymn or praise song that you want to sing in worship?

Send those submissions to Pastor Sarah via sarah@southshoreumc.com by Wednesday,

May 26 to help shape the music for our Summer Worship Months!

JOIN ‘CAFÉ FAITH’ THIS WEDNESDAY via ZOOM

Café Faith is a Wednesday lunchtime study and fellowship opportunity.

Join us as we enjoy our meal, enjoy our fellowship, and enjoy time spent in the Word with God, pairing a time of Bible Study with a book discussion of John C. Maxwell’s book, ‘Change Your World.’ Email Pastor Sarah – sarah@southshoreumc.com – to receive the Zoom Link information.

UPDATED SSUMC FACE-COVERING PROTOCOL

Effective May 16, South Shore welcomes persons fully vaccinated to participate in our in-person worship services and other in-person gatherings with or without a face covering. ‘Fully vaccinated’ is defined as being two weeks after the last dose of the vaccine. Persons not yet vaccinated or unvaccinated are required to properly wear a face covering while in-person at South Shore so that all may gather together as safely as possible.

At South Shore, we continue

· To be in prayer for those impacted by the COVID-19 virus, and especially pray for the safety and discernment of the medical professionals and first responders in this congregation and those in service with our greater community.

· Our congregational commitment that if you are feeling ill and/or experiencing symptoms, that you and those in your household stay home and seek appropriate medical attention.

· To observe physical distancing between family groups.

· To encourage frequent and thorough handwashing.
